Hoya verticillata
Formerly H. sp. Bogor or H. pallida. (Sperlingia verticillata)
H. verticillata is very close to H. parasitica, H. acuta, or H. pallida.
H. verticillata is not H. amoena. Young stems are glabrous. H. amoena has minutely pubescent young stems.
Distinguished from H. parasitica by having nested veins and whorl forming.
(verticillate =
arranged in or forming whorls or a whorl of leaves around a stem)
The foliage and venation of Speringia verticillata (Hoya verticillata) are difference from Hoya parasitica.
Sheet of Sperlingia verticillata Vahl, #72 II. 6-2. Housed at the Danish Herbarium at Copenhagen. Annotated by R. v. Donkelaar March 1996 as Hoya parasitica (Roxb.) Wall. ex Trail. Note 4 leafs from closely packed nodes. Vahl toyed with the name “tetraphylla” then chose “verticillata”, meaning whorled.
Another sheet of Sperlingia verticillata Vahl. #72 III. 6-2. Again with 2 pairs of leafs from closely packed node. This sheet not here annotated. Note the leaf venation on both these sheets
