Vine or rarely subshrub. Leaves with sparse to dense indumentum; lamina succulent, to 15 cm long, not strongly recurved at margins; secondary venation abscure; colleters present.
Occurs from Torres Strait, Qld, southward to north-eastern N.S.W. Grows on rock outceops or in rainforests, vine forests and vine thickets. Flowers Mar.-May; fruits 3-4 months later.
Plants of Hoya australis subsp. australis are known to be poisonous to domestic stock.
